Soon the galley might turn out to be one of your favourite places on board. With the smell of freshly prepared food and warmed by the stove or oven it is a space to gather, play cards, or simply get a cup of coffee. Three times a day the chef gets creative and bowls and plates are being filled. Due to the watches, everyone lives by a slightly different rhythm so that there are always people sleeping, or out at the helm and lookout. So it is everyone’s responsibility that the food gets distributed equally and no one is left with an empty tummy. As you can’t just go to the supermarket and buy whatever seems to be missing and as the provisions are rationed, something like a cup of juice might get a completely new value!

Schon bald könnte sich die Kombüse zu einem Deiner Lieblingsplätze an Bord entwickeln. Mit dem Geruch von frisch zubereitetem Essen und erwärmt durch den Herd oder Ofen ist sie ein Ort, an dem man zusammensitzt, Karten spielt oder eben einfach eine Tasse Kaffee trinkt. Dreimal am Tag wird hier der Koch kreativ und die Teller und Schüsseln gefüllt. Aufgrund der Wachen lebt jeder in einem etwas anderen Rhythmus, so dass es immer Leute gibt, die schlafen oder am Ruder und Ausguck stehen. So ist jeder mit dafür verantwortlich, dass das Essen gleichmäßig verteilt wird und niemand mit einem leeren Bauch zurückbleibt. Da man nicht einfach in den Supermarkt gehen und kaufen kann, was zu fehlen scheint, und da die Lebensmittel rationiert sind, kann etwas wie ein Becher Saft einen völlig neuen Wert bekommen!
